Thank you all for your prayers, phone calls, and emails the past few days. My apologies for not being able to get back to each one individually.
My brother is stable and doing much better than earlier this week. He suffered a heart attack due to excessive drug use. His heart is very weak but I am grateful to the Lord that he does not have the infection the Doctors originally thought he had. That infection would have required surgery and many weeks of recovery in the hospital. He has been discharged and we have him at my sister's home to rest for a while.
He is still very afraid and is pretty weak. Even in the hospital he doesn't want to be left alone. The blessing in all of this is that he has expressed an interest in going to rehab. I have been in contact with a rehab facility through my church and they have said that there will be room for him in approximately 2 weeks. In the meantime the plan is for me to take him back with me until the space is available for him. He asked us to help get him out of the environment and city that he's in. He recognizes that he will not be able to stay clean in these surroundings. We will go to the cardiologist on Monday for some additional tests. If and when she says he is able to travel, we will be on the move.
Please keep him in prayer. I believe God has answered many of our prayers for healing and for him to admit this is the wake up call he has needed. We as a family have tried very hard not to be judgemental but supportive while showing tough love. While I recognize it's not right to kick him while He's down, we don't want to be manipulated either. Pray that the enemy doesn't creep in to start speaking all kinds of things to him. My greatest prayer is that he doesn't change his mind about the rehab. My siblings and I are dividing the cost of the facility fees because my brother does not have health insurance and the fees must be paid in advance before he can go.
Keep us in your prayers and I will update more as I can. Right now I am going to try to sleep because I have been up for several days.
Blessings to all of you. Keep the prayers coming!
