This post is a little out of order but some of you are interested and didn’t recieve the emails I sent while I was in Africa. For some reason I couldn’t access the blog most of the time I was gone. If you did get them just skip it…

Hi everyone!

Sorry it’s been a while. We haven’t been able to get online.

Things have been moving along very quickly here.
I took the evening off on Tuesday and watched the inauguration with several people here. What an experience. The entire country wad going nuts. Dancing in the streets and pictures of Obama everywhere. We had a little party and I made American potato chips and popcorn. The little things…

Earlier this week we went to an orphanage. They were great but an 8 yr. old had died from heart problems a few days before and they were in a bit of mourning.  The little boy fell dead as the kids were walking back to their rooms for bed. They all had to witness it and there was nothing they could do. There is no heart specialist here and there wasn’t a doctor in a town nearby that they could afford to take him. The child was buried out back literally across from the pig pen. It made my hearts break.

Funny moments in Africa…
A lady asks me to borrow my hair. I look at her confused and say that it doesn’t come off. She apologizes to me, pulls my hair and says I thought it was a wig…. why didn’t I shave my head before I came.

At one of the schools I visited the kids ask where is your husband a kids. I don’t have either I say. Why they ask. My clever remark or so I thought was God hasn’t shown me my husband yet. The teacher quickly responds, “I will pray that God shows you my brother and you move back here permanently.”  All I can say is that someone there had better be praying some opposite prayers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A side note is that I never met her brother and have no idea who he is.

Anyway, continue to keep us in your prayers. My leader here did find out that her father does have lung cancer. Her name is Terri please pray for her family. I had a hard couple of days with a sinus infection. Brigette before you freak you will be happy to know that I sent Simon to the pharmacy to get me drugs. . He came back with everything I asked for and I am feeling much better.  Yesterday I had a bout of homesickness. You all know I travel  a lot and I don’t ever have those feelings so it was new for me. I realized that my life as I knew it before I left is over and while I feel I am doing God’s will, I am a little sad to leave certain aspects of my life behind.

More to come later. We are headed to Limbe today. As an early birthday present they are taking me to the beach for a few hours. We will then go to another orhanage this evening.

More to come later. I apologize for all the grammatical errors. I am typing on a different kind of computer. (Everything is in French and the placement of the keys aren’t exactly the same.)

I will send pictures to everyone when I come home and give a better update later.

Love to all,
Toya
