This week has probably been one of the best weeks of my life. This unconventional trip is phenomenal!
I am officially in trouble in Haiti. I have fallen in love with a little girl named Wodlines but everyone calls her Sofia. I was doing a “routine” visit to an orphanage here and she was standing outside on the balcony. I was immediately drawn to her and she allowed me to pick her up and carry her around.
I spent quite a while at the orphanage and could feel the strings of my heart tugging.
During a meeting with the orphanage Director’s I asked, How old is she? Does she speak? In more than 2 hours she had not uttered one single sound. She is two years old and no, she does not speak is what I was told. She was apparently very ill as a young child and she lost both of her parents in the earthquake. She had been brought to the orphanage before her parent’s death because they were not able to pay for her medical needs. Her health is much improved but she still wasn’t speaking. My translator and I looked at each other. He asked me if I believed that she would speak. Absolutely, I replied. Our God can do anything! He pointed at her and said, You will speak in Jesus name. Both of us started prayers in our various languages and then continued on with our meeting. In the next few minutes, Sofia took the pen I had out of my hand and started babbling away!!!! I turned to my translator once again, do you hear that or am I hearing things? He could hear her and we both started to praise the Lord. I don’t think I have ever had a prayer answered immediately with such tangible results. And witnesses to boot! How awesome is our God!!!
We left the orphanage later that day and went to another church that we have a partnership with. My translator asked if we could sit and talk, he had some things on his mind. We talked and prayed and worshipped right there. This particular church was destroyed in the earthquake. There is nothing but a foundation, a few beams that used to hold a ceiling and some tarps. I told Pierre to remember that we are the church not a building. He was discouraged about worshipping in the streets with his ministry. (another church) We praised the Lord there and then he took me to meet his wife and son. His wife doesn’t speak English. Pierre translated for us and then we sang various hymns and worship songs in 3 languages, French, English and Spanish. We prayed and worshipped for about 2 hours. Just the 3 of us and Jesus. What a fabulous way to end the day. Pierre has invited me to his worship in the streets on Sunday evening. He wants me to lead. We shall see…
Our God is an awesome and amazing God. This trip has turned into such a wonderful experience. It started a little rocky but God is continuing to get the glory and revealing Himself to me more and more. I was questioning what all of the drama was about and why I would be brought here and my team was not. I have traveled all over the world and never had a cell phone stolen. What gives? I finally got the answer in prayer the other night.
I heard the Lord clearly…You want an answer and a reason for why you are in Haiti right now. Simply because I want more of YOU. Not more of your service but ALL of YOU, Your time and your devotion. I missed you and I wanted you to know it.
Gotcha!
