Here is a snapshot of what has been going on here in Hait from the viewpoint of some of the participants on my team!

God is awesome!!

Today was amazing!!! God is so awesome and he is really doing some manger things.  It’s not just in Haiti. It is so true when people say that they have come to Haiti to help the Haitians and they are the ones who get the help. That is so true for me.  Back home when we did listening prayer God had reveled something to me and it has been more than once. I saw children, mostly young girls with pink hair and white hair ties. I thought it was just me making something up because most of the people on our team had one. I never said what was spoken to me. So today the first day out we went to this village. We were somewhere on the hill side and there ones tons of kids and ruble it was almost overwhelming. There was a  chance to go tent to tent or go into the school so I began to pray and just as I did Andrew a guy in mine and Kay’s group. We spent about an hour talking to people outside and then. It was time to go in. When we walked in there was kids with pink and white hair ties. I wanted to cry and they were all so thankful and I received lots of hugs. God has revealed his power and that he is speaking in to my life and wants to speak through him. I just need to be bold and not doubt the knowledge He has given me. It ‘s so awesome to see these people worship and want to all the time. Then I think about me back home and how sometimes church is such a chore and on and on. Then I come to a place like this and that is all people want to do. I have taken so much for granted back home and my prayer and hope is that I can be changed and serve my home town better or where ever God wants’ me to be…  I am not who my friends, my family or my enemies think I am. I am becoming who God wants me to be. God’s will, God’s way, nothing more, nothing less!

I feel so blessed and honored to be called to be a part of something so amazing. The conditions here are horrible and it has been a humbling experience seeing how these people deal with this disaster. We have so much to be thankful for in America, yet we still complain. Interacting with the Haitians, especially the children, has been wonderful. They are so sweet and so ready to worship. Today is only my second day here and I am looking forward to the rest of the week and all the blessings to come. I pray for guidance for the coming days and miss and love you my family and friends. God Bless

The one thing we constantly hear in the streets is “blanc, blanc, blanc, BLANC!!”   This translates “white, white, white, WHITE!!!”   I’m thinkin’ we might not want to try this back home (well, maybe not you…I’m totally tryin’ it)! In all seriousness, the people are absolutely beautiful and full of joy. They truly exemplify the reality that God blesses the broken and it’s not until we ARE broken that we are able to fully experience Him.   David, Job, Elijah, and Jesus Himself endured brokenness to give way to life. Haitians are truly blessed (as they mourn and hurt, yet keep smiles like you’ve never seen before in your life).

FYI from Toya – I get the opposite. All I hear is Black, Black, Black! Occassionally – Black Sister but most of the time just black. I guess this is good since in Cameroon I am alled white man and in America I’m told I’m not black all the time. Finally some people understand who I am!! 🙂

I have so many thoughts and emotions flowing through me right now, it is a difficult task to condense it into a paragraph of words. Tears of hope and smiles of love are so much clearer expressions. But I would like to share my epiphany of the day with everyone reading. This morning during our briefing, I was, in all honesty, a little “bummed” and confused when we were told what we were to do today: walk through a village and talk to people. I didn’t grasp at that moment how that would help anyone. It wasn’t long before I GOT IT. What the people here need and appreciate most of all is our presence and Love. They smile, hug us, kiss our cheeks, thank us, and pray for US. That’s right-they pray for US-as a form of appreciation. There is so much we can all learn from these beautiful people that are a part of us. Thank you God for everything.   I bless this day!
